This is a must-visit restaurant if you are in Miri. Muara Restaurants has a few branches all over Miri. Lalapan dishes which is of Indonesian origin come with rice, either chicken, beef or fish/prawn/squid, some boiled vegetables, tempe (partially fermented soya beans), tau fu and a generous of portion sambal belacan or shrimp paste. The rice is served separately on a plate and there’s also a bowl of soup to go with your meal. The sambal belacan is what makes the lalapan dish special.
We went to the main restaurant at Jalan North Yu Seng.
Truthfully I was disappointed….I have tasted better sambal belacan elsewhere. I am a huge fan of sambal belacan. However, this one was a little too strong on the fishy side for me. I guess I’m not a Nasi Lalapan fan.
OUR VERDICT (6 STAR MAXIMUM)
FOOD : GENERALLY 4 STAR ( For me the Beef Lalapan is the best )
AMBIENCE : 3 STAR
PRICE : REASONABLE
