Mee Udang – Pulau Sayak

This eatery outlet MEE UDANG YAAKOB at Pulau Sayak specialises only in Mee Udang ( Prawn Mee )…either curried or fried. Most people come here for the Mee Udang Kari ( Prawn Mee Curry ). This popular Malay-style prawn noodles has many driving up North just to savour its sweet-tasting broth, fresh firm prawns eaten with yellow noodles sprinkled with aromatic fried shallots and chopped fresh coriander.

We visited this outlet on Christmas day 2015 around 6.00pm. As it was a public holiday and a long weekend break, there was a big crowd even at 6.00pm. Parking was very limited along the narrow road leading to several eatery outlets located in its vicinity.

The Mee Udang curry dish is very authentic. I cannot adequately describe in words the exquisite taste. It’s actually a simple dish, uplifted by two elements namely the sweet-tasting broth and the firm and sweet fresh prawns. The broth is what makes the Mee Udang…tangy sweetness with just the right hot curried taste ( whatever this is ? )
