LAKE KENYIR RESORT & SPA 19 JANUARY 2015
Lake Kenyir Resort & Spa, Taman Negara is situated on the edge of one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests in Terengganu, Malaysia. It is a very secluded and very scenic place. It is one of the gateways to Taman Negara (National Park). It is not a natural occurring lake….. however it’s breathtakingly beautiful. Spanning over 70 acres, this Terengganu resort stands majestically on the banks of Lake Kenyir, Malaysia’s largest lake, and is surrounded by the world’s oldest tropical rainforest. The 260,000 hectares lake contains 340 islands, with countless pristine cascading waterfalls and rivers from which flow crystal clear water from the surrounding highlands. Blessed with extensive biodiversity, Lake Kenyir borders the western fringe of Taman Negara, providing nature-based activities for the adventurous traveller. This setting provides unique natural landscapes, creating a serene and idyllic environment to calm and refresh the spirit.
I think there is no other guest apart from the four of us. This is because the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia had just recovered from a very big flood in living memory. The school holidays had just ended. The restaurant closed upon us dining that night…and probably the kitchen staff had their day off after our breakfast the next morning.
If you’re going to visit Lake Kenyir Resort be prepared for an all nature trip that includes wildlife and lush green surroundings but nothing else. Considering that Lake Kenyir is the largest man-made lake in Malaysia it seems a bit odd that this is the only resort near the lake. It’s a bit past its prime, but the location on the banks of the lake, the large property, the relatively quiet, the friendly staff and the scenery make up for it. The resort retains a rustic charm, with its timber chalets spread out along the lake.
Here one can discover the tranquil waters of Lake Kenyir and the natural wonder of an unspoilt tropical rainforest, which together form the backdrop of Lake Kenyir Resort, Taman Negara – Home of the Hornbills. There are 10 hornbills species that can be found in the rain forest of Malaysia…and you can find all 10 here in Lake Kenyir. If you are a hornbill lover…this resort is a must-visit. There are also other species of small birds. And you will most likely wake up to the serenading voice of the Magpies. The scenic view from our room is probably one of the best in the world.
